Robert G.
Suddenly on December 29, 2008, of Audubon,
NJ. Age 56
years. Beloved
son of Roseanna V. (nee Gaffney) and the late George A. Kiessling. Dear brother of Gerald D., Edward P.
(Carolyn) Kiessling, Joan M. Erle,
Diane P. (Michael) Thompson and Thomas G. (JoAnn) Kiessling. He is
also survived by 4 loving nieces and 4 loving nephews. Bob was a fixture in the South Jersey Cross
Country and Track circles, known for his long career as a coach and also as a
Track Official. He began his coaching
career at Paul VI High School
where he coached the Girls Cross Country and Track teams from 1975 to 1978
winning a State Group 3 crown in 1978.
He then went to Bishop Eustace Prep where he coached for 18 years. While
at Bishop Eustace his teams won many accolades among them 6 State Championship
Titles in Cross Country and at least 2 State Championships in Track along with
a host of SJ Sectional and Conference Championships. He then went on to coach at Haddonfield Memorial
High School where he was
instrumental in helping the Cross Country Teams win several State, Sectional
and Conference Championships. Bob was
also named the SJ Track Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1988 &
1995, and was also named the 1992 New Jersey Track Coach of the Year by the
National Federation of State High School Associations. Bob also served as the
SJ Track Coaches Associations Treasurer for many years. Along with his Track
accomplishments Bob was also an extremely proficient and well respected Math
Teacher. He taught math at Paul VI,
Bishop Eustace, and at HMHS where he earned the respect of his peers and
admiration of his students, and also tutored many pupils throughout South Jersey. Bob was an avid reader and writer and had
contributed many articles to the Courier Post over the years. Relatives and friends are invited to meet
Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00pm and again Saturday morning from 9:00 to
10:00am at Christ the King
RC Church,
200 Windsor Ave., Haddonfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
10:00am at the Church. Interment to follow Colestown
Cemetery, Cherry
Hill. In lieu of
flowers the family has requested memorial donations in Bob’s name be made to
either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2004 Sproul
Rd., Suite 208, Broomall, PA 19008 or the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1 Reed
St., Phila. PA 19147.
